Sometimes it feels like you’re swimming against the tide when it comes to losing weight. You feel as though you’re doing everything right without actually trimming your waistline. You’re dieting right, working out right, and keeping track of your calories. So what’s going wrong?

You’ll be surprised at how many people are in the same situation as you. Many people ask the question why they aren’t losing weight, despite doing everything their trainers told them. They do X, Y and Z, but still the numbers don’t add up. Usually, there are a few common mistakes that you are making. Let’s take a look at 10 possible reasons why you are not losing weight, despite trying so hard.

You’re Relying On Exercise Too Much

We’ve all seen the celebrity fitness DVDs. The woman who has miraculously lost five stone by following her very own fitness regime has released it on DVD so that you can work out and lose weight quickly too!

But you can’t lose weight just be exercising. You have to do other things too. When you work out, you burn around 400 calories at the most. This is offset by those thousands of calories that you can eat in just minutes. It doesn’t sound fair, but that’s the way it is.

You Don’t Actually Need To Lose Weight

Indeed, there are some people who don’t actually need to lose weight – but they try anyway. Perhaps for vanity reasons, they try to shed a few pounds to look even better, or to perhaps enhance their athletic performance.

But if you don’t actually need to lose weight, you’re probably realising that it’s a real challenge to shed some stones. This is because it is! You only have a tiny bit of body fat in the first place, so shaking it off will be tough. Sure, you could become even leaner – but it will take a long, long time and a lot of effort.

You Buy Food On Your Card

Many of us pay for our groceries on our debit cards these days. It’s just a whole lot easier than carrying a wad of cash and coins around with us.

The problem, though, is that it’s very tempting to overspend and buy more food than you actually need. If you only have X amount of cash on you, the chances of you cramming lots of junk food into your shopping trolley decrease. But if you have unlimited spends on your card, the supermarket is your oyster (or donut).

A good tip is to shop for groceries with cash, thereby limiting how wild you can go.

You Eat Back All Those Burnt Calories

Do you ever really know how many calories you actually burn when you exercise? 50? 100? 200? 250? It’s hard to tell.

This is problem when it comes to your post-exercise meal(s). Many people overestimate how many calories they’ve burnt, and so they tend to overeat, using the fact that they’ve worked out today as an excuse.

“I’ve worked out, so I can eat a bit more today.”

Nope, you can’t. You might also assume that you can just “burn it all off” tomorrow. Again, you can’t. As said earlier, it only takes a few minutes to consume thousands of calories, but it takes a long time to burn as many off.

You Think About Exercise Too Much

When you’re trying to lose weight, your work-out routine can become a bit of an obsession. We’re not suggesting that you’re in the gym working out like a beast 24/7, but we are suggesting that perhaps you think about it too much.

Thinking about the workout you’re going to do tomorrow can cause you to overindulge today. It can cause you to think, “Hmm, I’m working out tomorrow, which means there’s nothing wrong with me eating this cake today.”
